FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the MoonSaddle™ Noseless Bike Saddle.

What is the best type of bike seat for comfort?

A noseless seat is truly the only way to take pressure off those critical sensitive areas and prevent or relieve any symptoms. Noseless saddles redistribute the pressure on the perineum (that cause numbness and pain) to the sit bones.

How can I make my bike seat less painful?

  • Noseless bike saddles eliminate pressure on the pudendal nerve, allowing blood flow and circulation to the perineum. When using a traditional bike saddle, the pudendal nerve becomes compressed. This can cause pain, numbness and damage to the reproductive anatomy, prostate issues (for men), and more. A noseless bike saddle moves the pressure from the perineum to the sit bones, alleviating pain and discomfort while riding.

  • Adjust the bike saddle. Most often, people are riding with their seat too low. It's also just as easy to have the seat adjusted too high, under-utilizing the gluteal muscles, forcing the quads and hamstrings to do all the work. Take an inseam measurement to get a ball-park estimate for the height of your noseless saddle. Learn more about adjusting your noseless bike seat.
  • Maintain proper form and technique while riding. Try repositioning yourself so that more of your weight is on your sit bones or arms, instead of your perineum.
  • Wear the right clothing every time you ride, such as breathable bike shorts and undergarments and remove them right after. When you're not riding, wear loose, comfortable clothing to help affected areas breathe.
  • Avoid saddle sores by keeping the area dry, clean and ventilated. Don't pick or squeeze saddle sores, as this can make them worse and lengthen recovery time.

What bike seat is best for pain avoiding?

Noseless bicycle seats eliminate pressure on your pudendal nerve to eliminate numbness and pain in your sensitive areas (perineum) when riding. Noseless bicycle saddles are designed to relieve pressure on the perineum, a sensitive area of soft tissue between the genitals and anus, that contains nerves and tissues related to sexual health and reproductive health. Traditional saddles can put 25-40 % of a rider's body weight on these nerves and blood vessels, but noseless saddles shift that weight toward the sit bones. This can help prevent genital numbness and sexual dysfunction.

Why does my bicycle seat hurt so much?

A bike seat can hurt for a number of reasons, including:

  • Pressure: Your body weight is distributed on two small bones at the bottom of your pelvis, which can cause soreness. Incorrect saddle height can also increase pressure on your perineum, causing pain.
  • Friction: Pedaling can cause friction, and sweat can make the friction worse.
  • Getting used to the seat: It can take a few days to a week to get used to a new bike saddle, especially if it's an unfamiliar shape.

Most comfortable bike seat for long rides?

Bike saddles have come a long way in recent years. Still, traditional bike seat designs all have a nose (sometimes referred to as a "horn") that runs underneath a delicate region of the human body called the perineum. The perineum is home to important nerves, blood vessels, and muscles. The pressure from the nose of traditional bike seats results in loss of important blood flow in this delicate region, causing numbness and pain.

What is the most comfortable bike seat for women?

Noseless bike seats can be more comfortable for women because they relieve pressure on sensitive areas. Traditional bike seats can put 25-40% of a rider's body weight on the perineum, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and muscles. That pressure leads to numbness and and pain when riding.

What is the most comfortable bike seat for men?

Noseless saddles eliminate pressure on the perineum (the soft tissues down below) and make for a more comfortable ride. They can also help prevent erectile dysfunction in men that can result from repeatedly squishing their naughty bits against a saddle's nose.

Are noseless bike seats better?

If you add in any medical conditions or disease, a joy ride can quickly become torture! This is where a noseless saddle can make a huge difference. A noseless seat is truly the only way to take pressure off those critical sensitive areas we refer to as "sit bones" and prevent or relieve any symptoms.
